50 Malabon senior citizens get free health services
Some 50 senior citizens in Malabon City were given health services on Tuesday, Oct. 4, in line with the celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.
Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval graced the activity held at the Super Health Center in Barangay Potrero, which was prepared by the city government and the barangay medical staff.
“It is wonderful to see you here. We are grateful for this opportunity to provide you with a checkup and ensure your good health” Sandoval told the elderlies.
“The city government is here to serve you and your family,” she added.
“Everybody is welcome to have a consult with our doctors, nurses and medical personnel, but today is a special day for our grannies,” Barangay Potrero Chairperson Sheryl Nolasco said.
The city government said that blood pressure check, electro-cardiograph (ECG), blood cholesterol check, X-ray, and ultrasound were performed on the beneficiaries. Results were immediately analyzed by doctors to determine the medical condition and needs of the senior citizens.
“Maintenance medicines for cholesterol, sugar, and blood pressure management are provided all over the city through the barangay health centers so our lolo and lolas (grandfathers and grandmothers) should regularly visit our city doctors for early treatment,” Dr. Clarisse Pascual of the City Health Department said.
The senior citizens also received post-consultation loot bags with supplement medicines, vitamins, alcohol, medical or health pamphlets, among others.
The Elderly Filipino Week is celebrated every first week of October to raise awareness on the issues concerning the older persons’ sector, according to officialgazette.gov.ph.
